Assam Engineering College was established in the year 1955. It is the first under graduate engineering college in the northeastern India and today becomes a premier technical institute of the entire country. AEC has been the hub centre of many academic and supplementary activities in Assam for almost half a century.

Master of Computer Applications Department
The department of Master of Computer Applications, established in 1990, offers M.C.A. courses of three years duration with an annual intake of 30 students.


Mechanical Engineering Department
The department of Mechanical Engineering, established in 1957, offers B.E. courses of four years with an annual intake of 60 students.


Civil Engineering Department
The department of Civil Engineering, established in 1656, was the first branch introduced in this college.

The annual intake capacity is 60 students per semester in B.E. degree course and 25 students in the M.E. degree course. This department also offers a Ph.D. degree in Soil Mechanics & Hydraulics.


Electrical Engineering Department
The Electrical Engineering Branch established in 1957, offers Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) degree and has an annual intake of 60 students.


Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering Department
Established in 1983, it is the only department in a state government funded college to offer a Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) degree in Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering with annual intake of 30 students.


Computer Science and Engineering Department
The Department of Computer Science and Engineering was established on August 25, 1998 offers Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.). The duration of B.E. is 4 years having 8 semesters.


Chemical Engineering Department
The Chemical Engineering Department was started in 1963 and had an annual intake capacity of 30 students in B. E. degree which has now been increased to 60 this year (2007 batch onwards).. This is the only department in the whole of North-east India offering an under-graduate course in chemical engineering.


Industrial and Production Engineering Department
The branch of Industrial and Production Engineering was newly introduced in 1998 offers B.E. degree course.


Instrumentation Engineering Department
The branch of Instrumentation Engineering offers Bachelor’s of Engineering course.

Jorhat Engg College , JEC, Jorhat (AICTE Approved)

Jorhat Engineering College was established in 1960 by the state government of Assam. In its inception, there were only three disciplines namely; Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Engineering. At present, two more disciplines have been introduced; Computer Science & Engineering and Instrumentation Engineering. The college is regarded as one of the most excellent institutions in the country.

   The Mechanical Engineering Department is planning to offer post graduate degree in Manufacturing Engineering.

   The intake to the department is 60 and the entry point is after H.S.S.L.C.



4. Computer Science & Engineering
   Computer Engineering and Application Department was started in 1987. This department offers four years B.E. course in Computer Science and Engineering.



5. Master in Computer Application (MCA)
   Master in Computer Application is a three years post graduate course. The intake to this course is 20 and the entry point is after three years under graduate course in any discipline, but in H.S.S.L.C. level one should have mathematics as a subject.

National Institute of Technology, NIT, Silchar (formerly Regional Engineering College, REC) is an institution of national importance was established in 1967 for imparting engineering and technology training and conducting research in a variety of disciplines.The government of India bestowed Deemed University status on NIT Silchar with agreement from University Grants Commission (UGC) and All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).

NIT, Silchar was ranked 26 and 24 for the year 2005 and 2007 respectively among Indias Top- T schools by DataQuest.

NIT, Silchar is a fully residential institution with six hostels for boys and one for girls. The capacity of boys’ hostels is 2000 and that of the girls’ hostel is 150.
